Rally for Working Families: June 17th at the Statehouse
Across Ohio, parents are working hard and still feeling the squeeze. Families are dealing with soaring costs for child care, groceries, and housing, making it increasingly difficult for them to make ends meet.
Governor DeWine has proposed solutions to provide tax relief and make child care more affordable for working families through a new Ohio Child Tax Credit and investments in child care.
The Ohio Child Tax Credit Coalition and partner organizations are coming together to make sure children and families have the care and resources they need to thrive. We are calling on the Ohio General Assembly to help parents deal with rising costs by including the Child Tax Credit and other vital family supports in the final Ohio budget.
Join us June 17 from 12pm-1:00pm on the West Lawn of the Ohio Statehouse to stand up for working families. Let’s provide families with relief.

Devastating SNAP Cuts Included in Reconciliation Bill
On Thursday May 22, the U.S. House of Representatives passed their reconciliation bill that cuts Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) drastically. The bill now moves to the Senate to make changes, with a goal of passing on the Senate floor by July 4.
This bill includes many proposals to cut SNAP significantly, including:
Expanding already harsh work requirements to adults 60+ and parents
Restricting future adjustments to the amount of benefits families receive based on changing dietary standards and inflation
Eliminating SNAP-Ed which provides nutrition education for SNAP recipients
Limiting the authority of states to waive work requirements during times of economic downturn and recession
Requiring states to cover more administrative costs
Shifting more of the monthly cost of benefits to the states
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that the bill will cut nearly $300 billion from SNAP through 2034. This would amount to a fundamental restructuring of SNAP and effectively end SNAP’s ability to support families in times of crisis. Food banks, pantries, and charities cannot fill the gaps these cuts would create.

2025 ALICE Data Release
Just last month, United Way released the 2025 State of ALICE Report. ALICE households are Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed, who earn above the Federal Poverty Level but not enough to afford the basic cost of living and expenses in the county where they live. The ALICE Household Survival Budget calculates the cost of household basics for each county in Ohio.
ALICE data reveals the true need in communities that can’t be reflected in outdated measures. In Ohio, 14% of households live below the Federal Poverty Level, but another 25% of households fall below the ALICE threshold, meaning 39% of Ohio households are unable to afford the cost of basics.
ALICE households are also less likely to be eligible for many public assistance programs and to face benefits cliffs.
